Bountiful Blessings This quilt received an Honorable Mention Award in the Fall 2002 Keepsake Quilting Challenge and was published in the Winter 2002 Keepsake Quilter Newsletter. Challenge rules require participants to purchase six unseen fabric fat quarters selected by Keepsake Quilting. Participants must use at least four of the six fabrics and may substitute up to two of the selected fabrics with fabrics of their choice. The Challenge quilt must not use more than six fabrics total. However, quilts were allowed to be embellished in any way. The background fabric was quilted with matching thread in a checkerboard fashion using two decorative machine stitches. A leaf printed fabric was completely cut up into individual leaves and then laid in place to form a wreath on the background fabric. Detailed free motion stitching was used to apply the leaves. The corn cobs and husks were done in the same manner. Sparkling dusty blue glass tube beads were hand sewn into place on all the dusty blue colored leaves. “Bountiful Blessings” was cut out of peach colored ultra suede, then ink in navy blue and gold were applied to the ultra suede letters to match the corn husk fabric. A spray on matte polyurethane was used on the letters to seal the ink. A 1/4" wide peach tinsel wire ribbon was applied by hand using golden-yellow seed beads. The binding is shirred over a cotton rope and an ornate trim was applied by machine just inside the binding. |
