It pays tribute to the memory of our dear little Yorkshire Terrier, Nutmeg. The likeness of Nutmeg was created by scanning a photo and printing it on specially treated hand-dyed fabric using an ink jet printer. Free motion thread painting was used to completely cover over the printed fabric, creating a fabric portrait. The portrait was then cut out and applied to the background fabric by machine. Black faceted button’s put a twinkle in Nutmeg’s eyes and the tartan ribbon for her topknot is one that she used to wear! Nutmeg is resting on a pillow that is embellished with a machine embroidered “N” along with black and antique gold trims. The locket frame is cut out of a gold mesh fabric which was over stitched with deeper gold thread to give it a tarnished look. A floral trim was stitched on top of the locket frame. The silk flowers at the top of the locket were pulled apart and detailed with free motion stitching and beads. The frame was made from two border prints that are cut and collaged together, then machine quilted in place. |
