In addition, it was selected for display at the 2002 Fiber Arts Conference and the 2002 “A Quilter’s Gathering” sponsored by the East Coast Quilters Alliance. This is the first finished quilt Karina made. The quilt is a fabric collage, consisting of a wide variety of fabrics, trims and embellishments. To create the collage, fabrics were cut out then pinned to a piece of muslin. Everything is free motion stitched into place, then machine washed and dried to give it a worn vintage look and feel. All threads were trimmed and clipped and more detailed free motion stitching was added along with hand-dyed silk ribbons, beads and a hand made tassel {upper left corner} using a variety of fibers. A deep rich red velvet ribbon with antique gold trim was added to the inside border. The border was made using flannel to give the appearance of a vintage suede leather frame. |
